Institute of Economics of Education

        The Institute of Economics of Education (IEE), Peking University was founded in 1999. It was jointly sponsored by the Ministry of Education (MOE), the former State Planning Commission, and the Ministry of Finance. It is an important consulting institution of educational policy and a leading research institute in economics of education and educational finance in China.
        IEE has identified macro mechanisms of educational investment and the administration as its research priorities. In pursuit of the academic development, IEE relies on the strengths and initiatives of the faculties, and it has rapidly emerged as a preeminent research institution known for empirical analysis featured by an interdisciplinary approach and a combination of quantitative and qualitative research methods. IEE faculties have presided over, and participated in many important research projects of some national and international organizations. They have made positive contributions to society, and thereby has earned wide recognition in the academia at home and abroad.
        In 2000, IEE was approved by the Ministry of Education as one of the "Key Research Bases for Research of the Humanities and Social Sciences" after a peer-review process. In 2002, the discipline of Economics of Education and Educational Administration was accredited by the Committee of Academic Degrees of the State Council as one of the National Key Disciplines . In 2003, the doctoral program of Economics of Education and Administration of IEE was accredited as the first-category Ph.D. program in public administration, and became a qualified post-doctoral research institution. In 2010, IEE was awarded as one of the Excellent Key Research Bases by the Ministry of Education.
